The National Weather Service New Ensemble River Hydrographs Experimental Guidance Product

Mike DeWeese
National Weather Service
North Central River Forecast Center

Presentation Synopsis:  NWS Ensemble River Hydrographs - New Experimental Guidance Product

Mike DeWeese, from the National Weather Service (NWS) North Central River Forecast Center (NCRFC), will discuss the challenges of the spatial and temporal variability of rain in convective environments and how the NWS has evaluated different strategies to provide relative uncertainty associated with River Forecasts.  The strategy currently employed at the NCRFC is based on the NWS Hydrometeorological Prediction Center’s (HPC) Experimental Precipitation Confidence Interval Forecasts.  Mr. DeWeese will present the new Ensemble Hydrographs which are intended to provide users with information on the hydrologic impacts of future precipitation at river forecast points within the Red, Missouri, and Mississippi River basins.

Highlights of the April Meeting

Mark Angleo and Brian Lintonen

SSG Brian Lintonen (r) receives his second Post Mug from Past Post Mark Angelo (l).  About a year and a half ago SSG Lintonen gave a presentation on how his Guard unit (Wisconsin Army National Guard,
724th Engineer Battalion, 829th Engineer Company Det 2) was preparing for their year-long deployment to Iraq.  This past month he gave a follow-up presentation on how his unit successfully completed their assignments and were instrumental in helping prepare for the
transitioning of an entire Forward Operating Base (FOB) to Iraqi control.

Young Member Event - Summit Brewery Tour

SAME/SWE Joint Event

BeerHistoryAt SummitWe had a great turnout for the Young Member (and not-quite-so-young member) event on Sat, May 1st at Summit Brewery in St. Paul.  We slightly overfilled our twenty slots, but fortunately no one was turned away, and thankfully there was enough samples afterward for everyone.  BeerKettlesThere was a nice distribution of representatives from our Post, the local SWE chapter, and students from the University of Minnesota who were interested in becoming student members of either of the engineering societies.

Many thanks to Rachel Pichelmann and Jane Flewellen for organizing this fun event.  If you have never taken this tour, but are even the slightest bit interested in the history of beer making, it is highly recommended, you will find the tour very interesting.  BeerTanksThe history stories and tour takes about an hour; after which you are rewarded with three healthy samples of your choice.
