Update on the UofMN's Gopher Football Stadium and the East Gateway District Development

Brian Swanson

U of MN's Project Coordinator for the Stadium Project

No PDH for this Presentation

Presentation Synopsis:

The University of Minnesota is currently working hard to bring Gopher football back to campus by building a brand new stadium next to Williams and Mariucci Arenas.

The stadium will be the first new Big Ten stadium opened in over 40 years. While the conceptual drawings of the new stadium are exciting to all Gopher football fans, turning these from concepts into reality provides many challenges to the Project Coordinator, Mr. Swanson.

The presentation will review the overall development process, provide an overview of the project structure, design, and construction, and highlight some of the unique challenges associated with a 75-acre urban brownfield project.

More Mentors are Needed for Our Communities

Logo of Mentoring Partnership of MinnesotaPerhaps you saw the news article in last Saturday's edition of the Pioneer Press ("Minnesota / Math, Science Mentors in High Demand" by Megan Boldt) about the need for more people with math, science, and engineering backgrounds to be mentors for the young people in our communities ... but in case you didn't see it or didn't read it ... the news article made mention that there is a huge, unmet need for additional volunteers to be mentors.

There is an organization called Mentoring Partnership of Minnesota that has a mission "to connect more youth with quality mentoring and economic self-sufficiency experiences.  Their goals/objectives are:
  • Recruit caring adults to become mentors, as well as find mentors for young people
  • Provide training, support, technical assistance, information and referrals on mentoring
  • Offer local and national connections to community leaders who can speak on mentoring issues
  • Educate the public on the importance of mentoring
  • Help shape public policy to increase funding and support for all mentoring programs
  • Provide resources on how to initiate and maintain a mentoring program
  • Provide an interactive website to connect mentors and young people to mentoring programs

If you are interested in additional information about this organization, or would like to find out what the needs are in your specific area, please visit their website at http://mentoringworks.org/home.html.
