St. Paul District, USACE

Presentation Synopsis:

The Corps of Engineers methodology for assessing the safety of levees has been impacted by the Map Modernization program and the levee failures at New Orleans. The Corps has national teams working on updating procedures for levee certification and for assessing the safety of levees and dams. Pat Foley, of the St. Paul District, Corps of Engineers, will present the status of these efforts and the current procedures used by the Corps for certification of levees.

Mr. Foley has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from University of Minnesota and a M.S in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University. He has worked for the St. Paul District since 1972.

Topic 2:  FEMA’s Map Modernization Program

Ms. Jiwani has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from University of Minnesota and a M.S in Water Resources Engineering from Colorado State University.  She has worked in the DNR’s Floodplain Management Program since 2001.

Jason Sprague (l) receives the Post's Presenter's Mug from Post President Bill Forsmark in appreciation of the very enlightening  presentation he gave at the April meeting.

Jason presented background information on the require-ments for documenting and submitting NPDES-related activities of a construction project and how web-based technology can be used to effectively fulfill permit obligations with the efficient use of existing resources and fewer budget dollars..

Spring has finally sprung, and many of us have finally hit the links at least once or twice, and many more of us are anxiously awaiting our first chance to get out of the office and play golf hooky.
So ... now is good time to start thinking about your foursome for the Post's 22nd Annual SAME Scholarship Golf Tournament.

The Tournament will be held at the Oak Marsh Golf Course in Oakdale, and the format will be similar to that in past years.  If you have any suggestions to pass along to this year's event organizers, please sent your ideas to:

Brent Nelson at 612-379-8805 or by email bkn@cnaengineers.com

Ben Tustison at 763-205-2651 or by email ben@tustisonengineering.com

The date will be Thursday, July 19th.  A flyer is now posted on the website, so please pass it along to all your friends and cohorts, and encourage them to plan on attending this worthwhile event.

Since the May meeting will be a joint meeting with another society, we will be postponing the election of new Post Officers to the June meeting.

If you are interested in helping the Post continue its excellent track record for providing meaningful activities and value for its members, we would be interested in hearing from you if you would like to serve in one of the two Director positions that we need volunteers for, or if you would like to help on one of the operating committees.

If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please contact Post President Bill Forsmark at wforsmark@barr.com or 952-832-2600 prior to the June meeting.
